bissell Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac - 37602 I LOVE this vacuum cleaner

Review Date: September 24, 2006
Reviewer: K. Gehring, Kentucky, USA
After doing some searching and online reading, I decided to go with the Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac when the time came for me to replace my 11-year-old vacuum cleaner. I knew I wanted an upright model with easy-to-change attachments as well as a bagless model. I saw this particular vacuum cleaner in a Target store one day and the pet aspect got my attention. We have a black-haired house dog whose little black hairs always seemed to be embedded in the carpet...even *after* I had vacuumed.

This vacuum is wonderful. It's picking up all kinds of carpet fuzz, dog hair, dirt, and other crud that the old vacuum was leaving behind. My carpets look and feel brand new after I vacuum. And the best thing - no more little embedded black dog hairs! The pet hair turbo brush also makes a huge difference on those areas where our dog likes to take his daily naps.

The cord is plenty long enough for me to not have to constantly stop and switch outlets as I'm vacuuming through the house. I haven't yet tried the detachable cannister feature, but I imagine that will come in handy when necessary.

The dirt cup is super simple to empty out - just slide a little lever over and the cup pulls right out. The filters are easy to locate and appear to be easy to clean/change. The price is quite reasonable as well...at less than $200, this vacuum is an affordable choice for people who want a nice cleaner but don't want to spend several hundred dollars on one.

While there are many other things I'd rather do than vacuum, I'll admit this Bissell vacuum makes it not so bad. The fact that I know my carpets and floors are actually getting clean makes a huge difference. I'm very happy with this model and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone...especially if you have indoor pets!

I bought this vacuum yesterday, made hopeful by the pet picture on the cover. I have two long haired black cats who shed continuously, and my beige carpets have been covered by black fur without any hope of relief since I got my cats a year ago. My previous vacuum - your standard, run of the mill thing - did absolutely nothing to alleviate the problem. I was reduced to spending a couple of hours' time on cleaning up my floor with sticky paper, and I felt that it only has maybe a mild cosmetic benefit without true cleaning involved... it was not a pretty picture.

Bissell revolution is astonishing, given the experience above. I can't recommend it highly enough. My floors are so clean right now. I don't have a large apartment, and in one cleaning, the vacuum picked up all the dirt that must have accumulated over a year. I had to empty the trash canister about 5 times. It was well worth every penny!! Did I mention that it is bagless, too? The convenience can't be overestimated. I still need to figure out how to use a special brush in difficult to reach areas, but rest assured a special brush is available and looks quite useful for cleaning the stairs. The vacuum unit is detachable from the frame, so you can carry it around. There is an indicator for when the filter becomes clogged and needs servicing.

Anyone with pets should have a vacuum like this.

I have had this vacuum up and running for only an hour and I must say that this is the BEST VACUUM I HAVE EVER OWNED! I have a pet and was using one of the original Fantom Fury vacuums and I thought it did a great job; wrong it didn't pick up anyting like this one does. I had to clean the cup out at least five times and I only used it in three areas of my home. I did all of the research before I decided on this model and I am not disappointed and you won't be either. I was really impressed with the suction power when I used the hose and tools.
The only thing I didn't care for was that the exhaust port is in the back of the machine and blows on you, but you can't have everything. Try it you'll like it!

I have been through many vacuums over the years, never wanting to spend more than $100, some better than others, others I chucked out after one try. I read reviews on the Lift-Off Revolution vacs online here and then saw this one at Target, had a picture of a dog on the box and thought maybe this would solve my dog-hair problems - none of my vacuums seemed to get up the pet hair well, and my off-white carpet had visible dark dog hair in it, never looking clean.
I bought this vacuum and I swear it is picking up years of embedded dog hair. I had to empty the canister 5 times just for my bedroom and the carpets look CLEAN. The only bad thing is the attachment that I used on the stairs, some kind of turbo thing, got longer hair caught up in it and I had to take it apart to clean it out (says so in the directions) and now I can't seem to get it to fit back together properly and therefore the little roller won't spin. I might have to send for a new attachment but I really don't want to take my vacuum back because I love it so much and don't really care about the hand tool for now. Anyway, it's the best vacuum I've ever had. Works on hard floors too - sucks up the dog hair, although I find I have to use the extra powerful setting I use on the carpets on the hardwood floors too in order to get the hair up.
bissell Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac - 37602 Great Vacuum

I just purchased this vacuum a couple weeks ago. I had an old hand me down vacuum that I had since college that was no longer cleaning anything, so this was my first vacuum purchase. I originally wanted a Dyson because I have used my mom's and I have heard such rave reviews but couldn't justify spending $500 on a f'n vacuum so I picked this up at Target for about $170. It has been a great vacuum and I am very happy with my purchase. We got it because it said it takes care of pet hair, and with three dogs and a cat we have a lot of pet hair. This thing works like a charm and pulled tons and tons of hair out of our carpets. What really amazed me was the amount of dirt it also picked up. I read some reviews that say it lacks suction and clogs, but after 2 weeks and a blanket's worth of pet hair being sucked through it, I have yet to experience this. The filters are nice in that they can be cleaned, except for the "post motor" filter which would need to be replaced but I can't imagine it would need replaced that often. The lift off feature has been great for cleaning steps and ceilings, and the thing is lightweight enough to just carry around with you as you clean (unless you're a wuss). The only downside I can think of is that the dust bin is kind of small but I am still able to clean the whole main floor of my average sized house before I have to empty it. Overall, this is definitely worth the money and I really can't imagine a Dyson is worth the extra $320.

PROS:

* Cleans thoroughly, seems to get lots of deep down dirt
* Great for pet hair
* Lightweight
* "Lift off" feature is awesome
* Cleanable filters
* Reasonably priced

CONS:
* Small dust bin

UPDATE: After about 5 months of owning this vacuum, I still stand by this review. It has not clogged or failed in any way, still cleans the carpets brilliantly, and is and awesome vacuum. The only thing I might add is to my "Cons" list is that the filters and the spinning brush need cleaned weekly if you are using the vacuum multiple times per week, but cleaning both filters and the brush takes approximately 15 minutes total. This is an awesome vacuum.

I purchased a new home and this new Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac. It picks up the finest of dust particles. They laid my carpet too soon causing a build up of construction/dry wall dust. This vac is still lifting out fine dust after two months. The little side compartments take no time filling up. When that happens, you just pull it out and then dump it out. It is that easy! I also have a collie who sheds a lot, that is no problem for this vac. I LOVE IT! Highly recommend!

It is really Great purchase! We have a Golden Retriever dog and a fluffy cat. We had several expensive vacuums but all of them clogged of pets' hair. This is a best affordable vacuum that really clean all pet's hair from the carpet. This one is designed that all dust goes directly to the bag's cup. I would highly recommend it to the people who have pets.
bissell Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac - 37602 Best Vacuum I've Ever Used

If You Have Pets (Or Even If You Don't): I lover my Bissell Pet Hair Lift Off vacuum. I've had it for over a year now and it still beats out my girlfriend's Dyson Pet Vac for about 1/4 the price, (we live very close by and did a test - she vacuumed her carpet (she has 3 dogs and 4 cats) with the Dyson, then I went over it with my Bissell and picked up a lot hers missed. Then we did the same test in reverse, and the Dyson didn't get enough to even bother emptying the dirt cup when used after the first go round with the Bissell). Plus it has better features to boot. For example, it solves the the canister vs. upright problem by having a detachable cannister - just press the button and you can take the canister (and hose/attachments) to do the stairs, drapery, hard-to-reach areas, etc. Trying to lug my old upright up every few steps with the hose attached to it was a nightmare, as the upright was wider than the steps, so I had to do a balancing act with the vac against my leg and the hose in the other. It is very easy to attach the hose - one easy step, click to detach the cannister and you're ready to go.

You turn on the power/suction with one switch and the beater brush with another - this makes it great for vacuuming bare floors (beater brush off). It's always been frustrating trying to go over a linoleum floor with an upright - the beater brush throws tiny pieces all over the room. This is very handy when doing a quick sweep of the house as you can easily turn the beater brush on and off as you go from room to room.

It has conveniently placed attachments, they are stable on board as you move from room to room, but are easy to access and easy to use. The small beater brush (for use with the hose) works great - I use it all the time and have never had a problem with it. I do wish there was an optional larger size beater brush hose attachment available as I could use it for areas/throw rugs that are too small/lightweight to use the upright, but a bit large to go over with the small beater brush included (although this size is perfect for the stairs and furniture).

The dirt cannister is extremely easy to empty - just flip the "lock" and pull it out like a drawer, empty, and replace. My last bagless was a mess to empty - it was difficult to remover, the main filter was inside the cannister, so you had to twist, take that out over a large trash can because the dirt and hair came out with it, tap it several times, use a toothbrush to get in dirt out of the little holes, reach inside and pull out hair, etc that was stuck in it, then empty the cannister itself. Repositioning the filter inside the cannister was a pain, and it was a pain to get the thing back into the vacuum once reassembled. No wonder there are people who say they hate using bagless vacs! But this one will change your mind, no doubt.

The filters in the vacuum are numerous (including HEPA filtration) and are as easy to remove clean (or replace) as the dirt cannister. A bonus is that there is an indicator that slowly turns from green to red to indicate when it is time to clean the inner filters.

It seems apparent that (finally) a vacuum was designed by someone who actually uses a vacuum. I love this vac and would recommend it to anyone.

And one final big plus for animal lovers - part of the purchase price goes to Petfinder.com and other rescue and animal welfare organizations, so you can clean up after Fido or Fluffy and know you're helping rescue animals at the same time.

One caveat - I do not have any bare wood floors, so my above statements for bare floors applies only to my experience on linoleum and tile floors.

I got this vaccum FINALLY...and immediately my carpets and rugs looked like they had been professionally clean...when i walk into the rooms they are much brighter.I knew my old vacum wasnt getting all the hair BUT MY GOSH i had NO IDEA just how much it left behind unitl i used this vaccum.With ANY vaccume and i have used MANY good name brand vaccumes i havent come across any vaccum that you DIDNT have to cut threads,hair or anything else that wrapped around the brush or unclog hoses.So if it ever does happen (which thusfar it hasnt)i wont complain because it goes with the territory. As for the fact that the brush doesnt spin in the upright position...it was designed for that and says that..and i have found that that feature comes in handy at times,so i like that it doesnt spin when in upright.And the canister feature that you can take out and carry it up the stairs with you,I LOVE that feature!! There is never an easy way to vaccum stairs thoroughly,but i will admit this makes it a LOT easier!!! SO tell my WHY would anyone try and take the whole vaccum up and down the steps and vaccum when it has the removeable canister???!!! As for someone complaining that the hose isnt long enough for certain duties,if you make the hose any longer you will loose suction...so no complaint there.Out of all this the ONLY complaint i have is when attaching the hose to the telescoping tool..i had a hard time taking it off to put back together.BUT little things like that i can live with after all..THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FLAWLESS!!..I have allergies and this is the first bagless i got and as long as I empty the canister(which is VERY simple and easy to take off/on)in an empty garbage can or near empty i dont have problems with the dust flying around and it doesnt bother me,so this versus a vaccum with bag..never again will i go back to a bag!! My allergies were always bothered when i used my old one because the dust went through the bag when in use.I love to vaccume now!! I dont dread it anymore now that i have my bissel.Which i must add that i NEVER would have thought about buying a bissel. This was a gift from my husband(which he SHOULD have known NOT to get me a bissell)and i must say i saw it was a bissel and was kinda disgrunted about it.But i have to say HE DID GOOD....he did VERY good.....Mama is VERY happy!!!..and when Mama is happy.........you know the rest!!

I read all the reviews prior to purchase and was skeptical, I anticipated disappointment. But I am so glad I bought this vacuum cleaner because it is absolutely phenomenal! This is a long review, but read it, it's worth it.

I should note that:
A- we have five indoor cats, and
B- this vacuum was a replacement for the Consumer Reports most highly rated Kenmore Progressive vacuum that inexplicably burst into flames.

I cannot fathom how Consumer Reports rated this less favorably as it is clearly a superior product. It cleans exponentially better than the Kenmore Progressive, maneuvers more easily and is less than half the price of the Kenmore. Naysayers must have purchased a defective unit, because I am unable to find fault in this vacuum. The only thing that's even minutely negative is the placement of the attachments- they're a little fiddly to get on and off, but once you use them, you just won't care because they are brilliant!

We have almost brand new carpet, I thought the Kenmore was doing a reasonable job until I used the Bissell for the first time and saw what the Kenmore missed in the canister, GROSS! Not any more, though. Every time I use the Bissell, the carpet looks a little better and the house smells even cleaner. A dear friend who is horribly allergic to cats is even able to come inside for a drink, now! She couldn't do that before when I used the Kenmore.

It's also relavent to note since I noticed it was an area of contention with other reviewers is that most quality upright vacuum cleaners weigh around the 20lb mark, this one is no different, so if you want a lightweight vacuum, either start working out, buy an Oreck or put in hard surface flooring, because I have never used a vacuum that weighed less than a bowling ball. That being said, I still have no problems picking this thing up compared to most other vacuums I've used.

The bottom line, if you buy this vacuum and aren't as happy as I, an anal-retentive, borderline OCD clean freak, am with it, you must have bought the wrong model or a defective unit. I cannot say enough wonderful things about how this vacuum revolutionized my daily cleaning routine. Buy it now. Nuff said.

Having a Border Collie and 2 house cats, we have battled pet hair forever. Our new vacuum is doing an outstanding job cleaning up this problem. It is important to read all the instructions about maintaining the machine to provide optimum performance. I find this a very small time investment to maintain the suction power, brush action and cleanliness of our carpets and furniture. The attachments work extremely well. We have been amazed by the amount of debris with which we have been living. The vacuum is very rewarding to use!

This vacume is the best I have ever owned. Cleans awesome, very powerful suction, and you can detach the canister to clean ceiling fans & hard to reach areas. It powers itself off if filter is dirty to prevent overheating and damage to motor which is how my last vacume died. You can remove and clean every part on the vacume including filters and tank. Simply the best vacume on the market for the price.

We got this vacuum because our other vacuum wasn't cutting it anymore... with having a 1 year old and with 2 cats, 2 dogs and living on a 16 acre farm we needed a vacuum that would hold up to the task. It has proven it is up to the task... it's amazing!!! We usually vacuum every other day and I am constantly amazed at the amount of hair and dirt it pulls from the carpet. My husband just got done vacuuming and said "this is a really good vacuum".

We absolutely LOVE this vacuum!! I'm baffled by some of the negative reviews. Maybe those people got a lemon?? Ours works amazingly well. It has incredible suction, and picks up debris, hair, and dust like nobody's business. The debris container needs to be cleaned regularly (I usually empty it twice each time I vacuum my 2500 sf. home), but wow! I can never believe how much stuff I get off my floors EVERY time I vacuum! I vacuum my entire house every single week... and spot vac regularly throughout each week. So far, no brush spinning / suction problems whatsoever. Just make sure you keep the debris canister cleaned. My neighbor borrowed it when she was moving, and couldn't rave about it enough! She wants to go buy one for herself!

I love this vacuum. My only complaint is that the tube for the attachments can be a little hard to remove from the machine. For the price though, it is a great purchase. I had actually borrowed a friends $500 Dyson to vacuum up the pet hair from my carpet and it did a pretty good job but a week later, when I vacuumed for the first time with this Bissell I was disgusted by the amount of hair etc. that this little bad boy picked up. I had to clean out the canister after I finished my living room. I had gone a longer period of time between vacuums when I vacuumed with the dyson and it didn't pick up half as much. I can actually put my eye down to my carpet and not see any hair. I don't think I've ever been able to say that with any other vacuum.

If you have carpet and have dogs, this vacuum is for you. However, if you don't make sure and clean out the the bagless canister when it's full all the time and the machine starts losing suction that's your own fault.

I have been suspect of my 6 year old vacuum for quite some time now and was tired of trying to find the right bags and feeling like I was changing out the bags after every vacuum. I was drawn to this bissell because of the lift-off canister and the bagless system. After reading more positive than negative reviews I went for it! I AM SO GLAD I DID! I gave it a test drive after I brought it home and was amazed at the amount of stuff it picked up! And I just vacuumed with my old vacuum yesterday! I am now certain that my carpets and stairs and floors are clean! Definitely worth it and the price isn't out of this world either!
bissell Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac - 37602 Excellent vaccuum!

Review Date: December 29, 2009

So, here are my stats. Stay-at-home dad with 2 year old and a labrador that loves to shed. Our old vacuum was an upright Royal. Even after vacuuming with my old vac, there was still lingering pet hair. Not so with the Bissel. This vaccuum made me realize how bad my other vacuum was. It is awesome! So, here's what I really like about it.

Great suction-It picks up everything my old vacuum didn't. It was like it redefined what clean meant for my carpet. I can't say this enough. My carpets finally look clean, even close up.

Quieter than others-Some people complain about noisy vacuums. They are vacuums people! Vacuums are noisy. This one is less noisy than my old vacuum and I am very happy about that.

Removable unit for stairs with brush! Nothing is worse than trying to drag a clunky upright unit up and down stairs. The bissel makes it easy and you don't get some half-powered detachment. You get the full power of the vacuum which is surprisingly not too heavy and much less clunky. Your back will thank you for this one. Also, the rotary pet brush attaches for cleaning stairs. Other vacuums, you have to try and brush away pet hair with a non-rotary brush. The bissel has rubber teeth AND a rotary brush. Goodbye pet hair!

Bagless-Another thing you don't have to buy and throw in a landfill. I love the bagless. Some people complain that you have to empty the bin regularly. Yes, you will early on. First time out, I did a high traffic area and had to empty it after a couple sweeps. However, this is another testament to how much better this vacuum is than my last one. Celebrate that all that junk is out of your carpet. On a normal day, you'll have to empty it every couple rooms. No biggie.

Another helpful feature is that the rotating brush stops when the vacuum is upright so you're not burning out the belts or brushes.

IMHO, it would be tough to design a better vacuum and at this price, it's a great deal. Excellent if you have pets.

My old Dirt Devil (will never buy again) finally died a painful death, and I got the Lift-Off Revolution Pet to replace it. My criteria for a vacuum were: bagless, pet hair brush, attachements, carpet size adjustment and replaceable belt. Found a surprisingly high amount of vacuums have really low ratings, but this one looked promising. Was rated high here and elsewhere. Have to agree, it works great.

Why didn't I give it 5 stars? To me, 5 stars is perfect, and I could find enough nit-picky things with this vacuum to say it's not perfect. One of the $500 Dysons would be near 5 stars, but then it's $500. Got this for $169 at Target (Amazon link), and well worth the money.

Like some of the other reviews I did a lot of reading about this vacuum before purchasing. I wanted to give it 5 stars, but there is no perfect cleaning machine out there! It seems there has to be a few "flaws" with any vacuum, but I LOVE this vacuum. The first time I used I wanted to write a review, but I thought I better wait 'til I used it again. I have a purebred "ragdoll" cat which if you don't know has the soft long hair just like a rabbit so they shed a little different and I have had a very difficult time keeping up with him until now. This vacuum picked up so much dust and cat fur the first time that it was Atrocious!!! Needless to say I was very impressed!!! The second time I went to use it the Turbo brush was very weak. I almost called Bissell to let them know, but I read the manual and cleaned everything and today it worked Wonderful again!!
As far as lightweight goes, anything feels light to me because I also own a Kirby, which has the suction of a Dyson, but is soooooo heavy and you have to do a lot to use the other attachments.
I have already vacuumed twice this week, which if you ask my hubby is a miracle in itself.
But in all honesty you cannot beat this vacuum for the price of $169.00!!!
I would definitely recommend this vac especially if you are on a tight budget. Just keep it clean!!
Just to update my review, I have used this vacuum several times and am still impressed with the suction and how much pet hair and dust I am picking up with it. The turbo brush is still working great!!
Hope this helps!!

October 11th 2007 update: I still cannot express the importance of keeping the filters, dirt compartments and the brushes clean. Not everytime you vacuum, but about every other time or so.
I still think the vacuum is great for the money!!!
The suction is still as good as when I purchased this vacuum and the clean up is quick!!!
